THE CHALLENGE
The DB50 is McDermott’s premier dynamically-positioned heavy-lift crane vessel — one of the flagship assets of a world-class offshore contractor. It was working the transport-and-installation campaign for ONGC’s KG-DWN-98/2 deepwater development off India’s east coast. It needed 12-strand HMPE (Dyneema SK78) ropes to an exact, certified specification — 52 mm nominal, a 220-tonne minimum breaking load, spliced to length, DNV type-approved — delivered to the project shore base at Kakinada.
On an offshore campaign, the wrong specification or a slipped date holds up the entire spread. It had to be right, and on time.
WHAT AEROMARINE DID
- Matched the exact specification: 12-strand Dynamica SK78 (Dyneema HMPE), 52 mm nominal / 60 mm with HMPE over-braided jacket, 220-tonne MBL to ISO 2307:2019.
- Sourced from Dynamica Ropes, Denmark — a DNV type-approved premium maker (type approval TAK000022F, for mooring, towing and anchoring on DNV-classed vessels).
- Supplied made-to-order: 240 m finished lengths, a 3 ft spliced eye with Dynamica PRO cover at one end and plain at the other, on wooden reels.
- Air-freighted the reels from Denmark rather than sea, to hold the schedule when time was tight.
- Delivered DDP to McDermott’s Kakinada project site with full documentation, ahead of the promised date and within four weeks of the purchase order.
Supplied with full paperwork: DNV Type Approval TAK000022F · Dynamica breaking-strength certificates (MBL 220 t, ISO 2307:2019) · full batch traceability.
THE OUTCOME
Two certified HMPE ropes, built to an exact offshore specification, air-freighted from Denmark and delivered to a remote deepwater project site ahead of schedule — keeping a world-class contractor’s campaign on track.
WHY IT MATTERS
This is Aeromarine as a technical supply partner, not a box-shifter. Global offshore contractors work to precise specifications and unforgiving schedules. Matching the spec, the certification and the date — first time — is what puts a supplier on the approved-vendor list and keeps them there.
The Delivery, Documented
Every step recorded — from the reel and its certificates, through wrapping and loading, to the road run to the Kakinada project site.
